How important is it really to wash your hands ALL the time with bearded dragons?

i read that you should watch your hands before and after touching them because they may carry salmonella, or anything else, how true is that? if you own a beardie, how often do you wash your hands when handling them?|||Aw, don%26#039;t listen to those people who tell you to wash your hands all the time. As fishing experts know, Salmonella only occurs with salmon, hence the name of the disease. Play with your Beardie and shower him with love. You don%26#039;t need to wash your hands at all!|||Nobody is sure whether beardies carry salmonella on them, but it has been found in their saliva and feces. It is also important to wash your hands before handling to avoid transferring any oils and germs you may have picked up.

I wash my hands/use hand sanitizer before I handle my bearded dragon, Budo, and after. While I%26#039;m handling him, I am very careful not to touch my face, eat, or drink. If I have an itch on my face, I use a tissue.

As I mentioned earlier, hand sanitizer is an alternative to washing your hands. However, if you are going to use it before handling a reptile, it should not be scented, as perfumes can harm reptiles. I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in my reptile corner. As I%26#039;m sure you know, hand sanitizer is mostly rubbing alcohol, and stings very much if it comes in contact with any cuts you may have. I have been scratched by Budo during handling without realizing it before I used hand sanitizer. Owch.|||I would say this isn%26#039;t important at all. In fact, washing your hands with bearded dragons is quite unproductive. They have all sorts of diseases that you can get from them, i.e. AIDS (and not the good kind). I know different tribes have different cultures, but this is just a little out there buddy. Try water. It%26#039;s cheap, clean, and efficient. You can also try adding soap or different grits of sandpaper. Experiment until you get the one you like.|||i think it is important because when you pick them up they will touch all the germs that you have touched. i dont think you should have to after.i hope i helped!
